Part time nanny in London - where are they?

Anyone any advice about finding nannies in London? I'm looking for an afternoon nanny, 1pm til 6pm to look after dd1 (4) to pick up from school at 3pm & pick up dd2 from nursery at 1pm. Just not sure where to start looking, am in central london - I've heard that gumtree can be good but any ideas please?!
Please fill me with hope that there are some great people out there. I'm not looking for the earth - just someone reliable, responsible & fun who's happy playing and answering to the many 'whyyyy?'s that eatch day brings

I would try your local netmums site, I think it's free to advertise and their are lots of nannies advertising themselves on there too. You can post ads on gumtree and nannyjob.co.uk too, but I think you have to pay.

Your position strikes me as maybe one that would appeal to a nanny with a baby/child of her own - would that be something you would consider? The only problem with an afternoon job is it is very difficult for a nanny to find a morning job to make up the hours if she needs full time work - if it was similar hours over three days it would be easier to find a two day job to slot around it. Accepting someone with their own baby is one way round this, offering a slightly higher hourly rate is another. You may be lucky and find someone who studies etc in the mornings and only wants part time hours though.

If you do use gumtree though, be prepared to be inundated with replies, most of them unsuitable. Best to think about what your requirements are (years of experience, age-related experience, qualifications, Ofsted registration, driving licence) and make them very clear in the ad.

I have been looking for a part time babysitter in central London and I looked at gumtree. I did not place an ad, I just looked at the nanny/babysitter ads that were posted for people looking for work. There were a suprising number that were looking for part time to fit in with other nanny jobs or with student stuff. Have a look and you may be lucky in finding just what you need.

could you place an advert at your daughter's school? at least that way, you or someone you know will have an idea who the people replying are.

have you thought about a nanny share, maybe with someone who has one child needing fulltime or with someone else who needs childcare mornings? nannyshare.co.uk is quite good for london. or simplychildcare.com we used.

I found our p/t nanny on nannyjob.co.uk a few months ago. Placed an ad for about £25 I think. Got about 15 responses, but of those only about 5 were what we were looking for. Interviewed three people and knew instantly which one we preferred. All working out well 2 months later.

hiya, realise this is a fairly old thread but anyway!...i started working for the family im with now, as an after school nanny, i picked them up at 3.20 and looked after them until poarents came home (am now full time)...this was my first proper nannying job out of college. depending on how many days you need them. you cdould possibley find a part time student doing childcare? failing that a ad on gumtree is good- i placed one on there and also applied for loads and loads on there- if you put an advert up you can say exactly what you need from a nanny.

is there any p/t nannies at DD1's school that you could nanny share with?

is it everyday or just some?

whereabouts in central london are you?
