I'm going to Italy tomorrow to be an au-pair for a year. I'm no where near packed, and found my passport!

My question is...what do I get the family as a 'hello' present?
Is this the done thing?
There is one child, a boy who is 3, and i have some stuff for him...some things to be bought out later in the trip too.
But I have no idea if I should get something!
It is a Sunday, and I have lots to do this afternoon, and I live in a small village.
I was thinking the day after I get there, to get some flowers? yes? no?

Chocolate! Our lovely ex-AP brought us some chocolates, and a little gift for the children (small toy each). Can't go wrong with chocolate (and you can get it at the airport )
Have a lovely time in Italy.

i always bring the children a small toy or some crafty stuff and chocolates and spa wafers, sometimes a bottle of wine if i can manage weight-wise.

some tea and English biscuits? all of ours tend to bring something very small from their home country - often edible. Good luck!
