You are very brave... an au-pair is typically in their late teens/early 20's and has little if any childcare experience... so may not be ideal for looking after a newborn.
I would suggest to check references very carefully and only consider applicants who can prove they have some prior baby experience.

What are you after?

Do you need someone with lots of sole charge experience with newborns or do you just need an extra pair of hands to help with housework and maybe taking the baby for a walk?

thank you for the concerns and yes it's not an au pair that I need, I need a 'mother's help/nanny'.
I live alone and my friends/family are 1.5 hours away. I just need a helping hand in the day and sometimes at night.
