First time host family - good tips and pitfalls?

Hi - I will be on my own with ap, newborn and 2 yr old while husband away in the week so need to get it as right first time as possible and would love to know your tips for newbie hosts. I am happy to have a MAP as the 2 yr old is a real boy and it would be good to have a male influence during the week.

Do we need (health?) insurance for them? What sort of notice period is best? What if they do something neglectful / dangerous? What kinds of things have your APs appreciated / liked about their families?

Our AP will be needed from about 6-9am, and 4.30 - 7.30pm most weekdays and for an hour over lunch on some days. They'll eat with us. Weekends are their own time. There is only the toddler to look after as i will do the baby. They'll eat with us and i'll do the cooking. No housework to speak of except i'd like them to clear up after meals. They basically have to look after the 2yo at the start & end of the day and get him settled for a nap after lunch. They'll have own room / bathroom. What sort of wage is fair? I've posted on one site and have 50 replies in 2 days.
