Here I am happily plodding along, with Dh as assistant, sole charge consents in place etc and details on registration of numbers etc - when BAMB the lovely KatyMac pops a link on another thread and now I'm poopin bricks. Don't know if I'm still doing it right or not or if I need to re-apply to Ofsted keep reading the Use of Assistants by CM info sheet and it's still not clear - any advice much appreciated am going to phone ofsted tomorrow to clarify, but I find I get several opinions dependant on who you speak to, so just after some general non-regulationey jargoney kind of advice

KatyMac - if you see this post, I do appreciate the link (honest)

Yep assistants cannot care for childcare children (ie non early years children)

They can care for early years children but not for children over 5

It has stuffed up my life

Plus assistants need first aid

Thanks for your reply KatyMac I'm a bit peeved as I noticed the small print back in Sept when the new register thingy came in and contacted Ofsted basically they said I could carry on our regional manager called back and checked through my reg stuff and said that we were ok, but according to this info that you found (really glad you did) I'm not, soooo it means that I am going to prob have to let some mindees go, but if thats the case is it worth still minding, I can have 5 under 5's with DH who is full time (assistant has had 1st aid for 3yrs)but it means that we can't split mindees up for school runs we do two at same time, I don't drive DH does and takes 1 or 2 with him there's no way I can take 5 under 5's on school run plus pick up / coll older kids at same time I would be wayyy over numbers. What am I going to do? did you get round it KatyMac? or did you let some go to - DH is regestering as CM but that will take time the Ofsted area manager suggested it.

Assistants can do under 5's not over 5's - so can he stay behind with 3

Oh 2 schools....umm no ideas

do you need a second assistant to stay at home?

I didn't get round it

KatyMac · 07/05/2009 08:23

TBH with a CRB/first aid it should only take weeks - it did for 2 assistants last year

atworknotworking · 07/05/2009 11:33

Yep whichever way I look at it I'll have to let someone go, couldn't afford another assistant especially if I have to reduce numbers till can find suitable person get crb / 1st aid etc. Grrrr sooo mad at moment why do they keep changing stuff

How long would it take for DH to register?

Can you speak to whoever said it was OK to continue to see what they say?

atworknotworking · 07/05/2009 12:01

Dh has just got cert for ICP course (our local councils required course for reg) his CRB is 3.5 yrs old so Ofsted said will need to renew (apparently they would have accepted if less than 3yrs) and he needs his medical check which he can get done next week, so just have to wait for new crb to come through and ofsted's pre -reg visit, could be a good few weeks yet, it was our local area manager that said it would be ok but as i never get the same answer twice from anyone at ofsted don't know if this will help especially as this info has just come out in April, so might be totally different answer this time, I always live by the rule book to the letter the other thing that pees me off is that this info should be made clearer, i only seen to find things by chance on forum's like this it's not on the childrens service dept should be keeping us all updated thats part of their job not nice CM's on Mumsnet - although I'm very glad they do!
