I have been asked to quote per day for a 10 hour day, but am not sure how much to charge. I am just starting out and the going rate in my area is £4.50 ph. Do you usually offer a reduction for day rates? If so, how much reduction, and based on how many hours per day?

I would say 8 hours is a full day so I would charge £36 for anything over 8 hours if your hourly rate is £4.50

my day rate covers from 8am to 6pm for which i charge £45. my hourly rate is £5 so parents who book day rate get a "discount" so to speak. Thats for south london btw

I just charge my normal hourly rate x hours

Same as HSMM

I split my day into two.
My morning session is 8am - 1pm and my afternoon session is 1pm - 6pm.
I charge £22.50 per session (£4.50hr/£45 per day)
So even if a mindee is only with me from say 9-11 for example, I still get paid for the whole morning session. I explain to parents that its because if they only want a few hours of care I will find it hard to find another mindee to take up the other hours left.

I have done this right from the start (3yrs now) and all my parents have been very happy with it.

Tas1 that sounds like a fab idea obv if you can get enough mindees coming though and is quite fair really.

I suppose if you werent getting mindees you would need to revise that but I think thats a fab way or working it out.

I forgot to say, for my after schoolers, I charge a minimum fee of 2hrs as well.

I've never had a problem and I've got a waiting list.

Its just the same a playgroup realy, playgroup would still charge you a full session fee even if you didnt use it all, so its just the same as that.
