I would like to do a sign language course. Can anyone recommend any.
Also, has anyone done a sign class geared more on communicating with babies before they can talk?

Thanks

I went on a Makaton course for childminders, well worth going on if you can. Ours was organised by our EYDCP. Its fantastic for babies/toddlers, especially if they are using the signs at home as well. I've used signing with 3 babies now - who've all been able to sign that they want their drink/muslin/dummy/to go outside etc long before they're speaking. Its fun for the preschoolers too - knowing some signs makes every song an action rhyme and makes storytelling more fun.

HIGHLY recommended!

I did a basic Makaton course (run by the Council). I look after a child who signs in British Sign Language. She uses it all the time.

My local children's centre did a short TinyTalk course, which I attended when I cared for a baby then aged 5 months old.
Can't say that I found it to be of much use... think the baby was a bit young really.

You could just try learning some basic Makaton signs - more, milk, eat - for example.

I did tinytalk course and found that it was great. My ds was little at the time, and it helped him no end as he started communicating simple things like eat, drink etc. He still signs when he talks (nearly 2) when he says words like dog and cat as well.

I have done an early years sign language course which I attended one night a week for four weeks. It was fantastic and I use basic signs with the toddlers I mind now. The one I use most is share
