CM club get your mp3 players out

been on a course today and the vibe is record, record, record.
the tutor suggested we get an mp3 player with mic (bout £10-£15) and record the child talking from 4mths until they leave for about 1 min a week this is great evidents and then the recording can be put onto a file on your pc and burnt to disc and given to parents when the child leaves.
also great promps when writing up observations and can be added to evidents file along with photos

Dare I ask WHY CM's should do this? Surely parents hear their own child make sounds.
EYFS gone mad again is it?

its just nice to remember your child saying/doing things and parents prob wouldnt record it
also gives the cm a learning jorney story to follow and if any concerns come up anytime

I feel that Childcarers should concentrate on looking after children, not recording their every waking moment. What next, keeping soil samples (not the soil in the garden!)
