hi
i've been a cm for 6yrs now and in that time took 1 day off sick about 4yrs ago.
anyway a friend of mine died last wk at work i was so upset last weekend but didnt take a day off anyway i have told parents yesterday that i will be closing on weds at 9.30am for the rest of the day as i am going to a funeral i have given them 2 childminders numbers (who the children know) and also explained about refunding them their money

well i have had no nice comments given to me just cross words, asking why i cant pick x up after school if the funeral is at 10am.
to be fair i prob could but dont really want to be at work after a thing like this as i dont know how i will feel

some parents can be very harsh. its one day for goodness sake. you have given them 5 days notice to sort something out and you have helped by giving numbers for other childminders.

stick to your guns and don't work on the weds afternoon. you will need an afternoon to yourself after a friends funeral.

xx

SaltireOShanter · 17/01/2009 13:55

Stick to oyur guns on this one. You will need some time off if a friend has died. They are maybe angry because they have used up all their holidays at work, or something, and problably aren't thinking properly about how you will feel

NewAmazingBeginning · 17/01/2009 14:09

Don't give in.

I think people need to see the bigger picture somtimes.

Sorry for your loss.

NumberFour · 17/01/2009 14:40

The parents are bloody unbelievable. Don't give in. Take the rest of the day off. You need to and want to. The parents don't own you!

Sorry for your loss, too.

dmo · 17/01/2009 16:00

Oh that is horrid how bloody self centred of them!

Stick to your guns about this, if it were me I would have to stand up for myself and make the situation clear to them that you will not stand for such insensitive behaviour.

BennyAndJoon · 17/01/2009 16:05

How horrid.

If you were my childminder I would not mind at all!

dmo · 17/01/2009 16:10

it was such a shock
poor guy lived next door and played guitar with my dh and came over for chats and parties all the time. he lived alone and started off this yr morgage free [ at 45.
he was at work last saturday and a machine just caught him and pull him in. not quite believing it yet think thats why i was ok to work this week gone but i think it will leave an inpacted on me on weds.

plus told parents i would be off one day next week for a funeral and would let them know asap when i knew the day.

Oh poor guy

I think some parents would prefer robots looked after their children. Do they honestly think you could go to funeral and wake and then turn up at the school gates at 3 all smiley like mary bloody poppins?

Don't even think about it again, concentrate on you and DH and the loss of your friend.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 17/01/2009 18:37

I'm sorry for your loss dmo

What planet are these fucking parents on?? I hope they read this actually and are thoroughly ashamed of themselves

mumlove · 17/01/2009 19:57

dmo - so sorry

The parents should be saying not to worry about it and they will also sort out the morning school run to.

I hope it all goes well {{{Hugs}}}

the mum asked me if I could have her daughter the next day ..... that is, the day after i called her to say my mother had died.
