I am in the process of appointing our first nanny, for my two DDs aged 1 and 3 when the nanny would start. What is the going hourly rate (gross)? Just so I have an idea. DD1 is currently with a childminder, so I have no experience in the nanny field!

Is there some kind of conspiracy of silence here?! Someone must be able to tell me what the hourly going rate for nannies is!

I'm not sure what the going rate is. Maybe if you said where in Scotland some more people would reply.

Have you tried looking at adds on gumtree to see if there are other families similar to yours and see what they are charging?

Also, there is a thread just a little bit down the board which has info about how much nannies in Edinburgh are paid.

Nannyjob has some broad figures here:

I would think you'd be looking at anything from £6 to £10 gross an hour.
