doubts about the nanny?

Hi, we recruited our Nanny through an agency.
She's young but had experience with young children and babies - no formal qualifications, not ofsted registered and doesn't have her first aid qualifications. She's signed up for a course though (the most basic) at the end of the month. In interview she was just so lovely and good with the children we were charmed. Only a week into the job I'm worried that she's embelished her experience... she reheated a bottle of formula for example (it may not have been clear that it wasn't old milk as it was nearly a full bottle) it was on the side of the sink, not in the fridge and the top was off. I dont't think a nanny should make that kind of mistake. It's made me doubtful on other counts too now. Am I being jumpy as it's my first week back at work or should I ask the agency to find me someone else??

There is nothing wrong with a nanny who isn't qualified. I have no "formal qualifications" but I still believe I am excellent at my job and keep the children I look after safe and well cared for.

As for the bottle, have you mentioned it? You could ask her if theres anything which she's unsure of just to check.

Indeed FMF . My children's nanny isn't qualified (yet) but I believe she is excellent at her job and the children are safe and well cared for.

as others have said- if this is the only instance of doubt, you are overreacting. any nanny- any employee!- needs to be taken through the basics and your expectations etc. mistakes do happen.

give her time, and invest in her!

fantastic mr fox - i think nannies should have some kind of qualifcation - cm's HAVE to

too many people want to work with kids and then just call their self a nanny

but agree that there are also nannies about who dont have quals who are good, just as some qualified nanny are rubbish

commone sense is essential as is first aid!!
