Urgent: Last minute nanny for a week or two - where would I find someone?

I'm going back to work full time on Monday and have a place in a lovely nursery/childminding practice. Ds (9 months) is however ill (Bronchiatis) and if not better by then, I don't want to send him because a) he might still be contagious and b) don't want him to go out in the cold.

I appreciate that I'll have to pay for both nursery and nanny for the week or two, but feel that I don't really have any choice. I also realise that legally I can stay at home if he is ill, but practically I can't miss this coming week (handover etc).

Where do I start? Is there a good website for on-demand nannies (sorry, not sure what to call the service)? I'm in London, zone 2 btw, so not too difficult for travelling.

Thank you so much.

I met Sal on Sat - both her+her husband are lovely and her son is adorable!

I'll be helping her out for a couple of days - so go team mumsnet!!

Have fun x

cheers jo - that whole other job fiasco just seems laughable now! I think it says a lot that I haven't seen the job advertised since, obviously the HK is now the nanny
Anyway, it meant I could help Sal out which is great!

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/01/2009 18:15

yah - fab news

glad both of you can help each other

In case anyone looking for a nanny is reading this - WWofWf is lovely! Ds sleeping like a, well, baby right now - that massage must have been great!

Thanks, blondes too! Would a virtual hot choc in lieu of commision help?

Thanks, Claire. I'm luckily ok now (WWofW helping me out for a couple of days, then mil flying over to help for a couple of months until he's a little older). Help much appreciated though, so thanks!

Sal, I can`t believe that you are suggesting payment to blondes in the form of Hot Chocolate, you mums ......................................................................................Try a large G&T and you may have a deal !

needsmoresleep · 11/01/2009 17:01

Hi, just seen this thread. now i need a nanny for a bit (though ideally not full time) as have been ill and am having trouble recovering with two lively children around! WWAYC - i'm in zone 2 too, near clapham south - might you be interested?

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2009 17:12

sal - hot chocolate

5stajo's suggestion is much better

seriously though, really pleased that wwow worked out - told you she was fab

needsmoresleep - have texted and emailed wwow for you and told her to come on

that will cost you a large G&T!!

wickedwitchofwestfield · 11/01/2009 17:25
