Just registered, have 18mo DS & can obviously only have another 2 under 5s, 3 families have approached me:
1yo girl for 3 days a week - get on with parents ok
19mo boy for 2 days a week ? didn?t gel with parents very well ? dad was V arrogant
7mo baby girl for 4 days a week ? parents seem ok

All to start in January!! Am I crazy to take on 3 young LO when I?m only just getting started?

I would take on the the two girls, if dad couldn't be polite at meeting and came across as arrogant that is a bad sign.

Can I just say how lucky you are to have thwem queueing up?!

Orangutan · 08/12/2008 09:50

Move to my area SammyK, it's unbelievable what the demand is like here!!!
Feel a little overwhelmed TBH. Don't know how I'd cope with 3 little LO.

Well another reason I said the two girls is they are both close in age, I find if mindees arfe similar ages it helps as they are into same stage of toys, play with each other, nap roughly same times etc.

Will you get a triple buggy? Not too bad here for mindees, but could be better.

AbbaFan · 08/12/2008 10:12

Agree with Sammy, take the girls on.

You'll be fine with 3 LO's. Have you lot's of toddler groups / soft play things to do in your area?

I find it easier to get out in the morning and do something, then lunch and naps in the afternoon.

Orangutan · 08/12/2008 10:21

SammyK: DS is quite good on a buggy board so will get a double buggy.

Abbafan: LOADS to do in the area with LO's

Suppose 1st month is also a trial & if I find I can't cope, will end contract with 1 of them...

Take the girls on for sure - perhaps suggest a trial session (2 hours?) with the boy with a parent there - for him to 'feel the ground' in your setting... and you can see how the second meeting goes with the parent/s.

I always go with my gut feeling. It is a close relationship with parents and it's crucial you get on well!

Re ages... mine have all been 1s and 2s... one has turned 3 recently... I love the little ones They toilet train together, have similar levels of develeopment, enjoy similar activities etc.

My area also has high demand... I am choc a block and have a waiting list - current part-timers all asking for extra days too. I have 2 variations in place but need to also pace myself and don't want to take on too much work. It's a long day with 4 lil ones.

Getting around has practical issues - thankfully the common, park, local shops like PO and vege shop are within 5 min walk.

I hate my buggy board! Hurts my back. But a necessary evil if you don't have a tripple buggy.

nappyaddict · 08/12/2008 11:01

I would take on the 2 girls. presumably you couldn't have all 3 unless the 1yo and the 19mo came different days?

Orangutan · 08/12/2008 11:28

Could probably take the 19mo boy on too as it would be a different day but the dad really bugged me, he has a very high-powered job so I'm sure you know the type. Think I'll go for the 2 LGs

Yeah you'll probably find someone else to fill those 2 days anyway. People are always looking for cms that will do part-time and there aren't often many that can.

DieselGirl · 09/12/2008 19:58

I have just started and i have 3 under five. Just try and get into a routine as soon as poss, it will take time because you may change the way you do thing about five times.Go with what your gut tells you.
