just bumped into the mum of my reception class mindee and she informed me that she was going to phone me today because he has chicken pox. He had the high temp and runny nose thurs and fri (I haven't had him since weds) and now the spots have started to come out. My 2 year old ds hasn't had chicken pox and yesterday had high temp and runny nose so it is quite likely that he could have it too. My question is do i close to mindees or given that ds might have given it to them already do i give the parents the choice if they want to send them? can i still have kids who have already had it? In my sickness policy I have said a child with chicken pox must not attend but hadn't given any thought to what if my own child had it. Don't want to totaly close if this is unnecessary. HELP!! Still got fingers crossed he hasn't got chicken pox that it is just a cold.

I would have thought that if your mindee had it they have probably passed it on anyway. I heard it can take up to 3wks to come out in the spots so.....

I would def speak to the parents and let them decide.

Ask the parents - most of mine have said that if any of my mindees or my dd gets it then they would still like them to come as most want them to get it early! I would still accept a child with chicken pox too, as long as they were too ill with it (making sure all other parents were ok with it of course)

Let them decide. As a parent I would have appreciated that, especially if you said that if they did come then you would look after them if they developed CP once they were over the worst.

I had this. I had a mindee that got Chicken Pox. I spoke to all the parents of the other children I look after. All except 1 (parent of a 5 month old baby) were happy for their children to continue coming. I found a backup childminder for the baby. All the children (and their siblings at home) got chicken pox, each 2 weeks apart (my own daughter first). I didn't have to worry about Chicken Pox for a while after that! None of the parents were worried about it at all. I, however, was confined to the house for a long time with all the children!
