My LO has a bad cold and temperature, now on ab's. I shall probably cancel my mindee tomorrow anyway if she's no better by tonight but can anyone tell me what you do in this situation?? Doyou offer it to the parent to decide? or just close anyway? I'm quite new to childminding.

I normally just call the parents and tell them whats going on. Most of my parents normally find alternative care or take the day off.

If my little one is ill but not bad enough that I have to close then I give them option but they still have to pay if they choose not to come but I'd be working as normal iyswim. If they were so ill that I needed to give mine 1 to 1 care then I'd close and give refund. My ds2 (4 months) was really poorly the other week and given ab's for chest infection but I still worked and didn't actually tell the parents as they all had colds anyway which is where he got it from.

If a LO has a cold, they are still accepted at school/nurseries etc as its not really classed as an illness. Therefore you should still keep open unless your LO really needs one to one.

Advise the parents and let them decide. Ive done this in the past and no one has every bothered staying away. Chances are they will all catch the cold anyway.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, she has perked up no end. I'm pretty sure that she caught it from them anyway! Its good to know what the general idea is though, thanks.

If my little one is ill, I call the mindees parents and offer them have a free day off, or they can take a chance on coming. They nearly always send their children and I make sure they have little if any contact with mine.
