What would you think if you went to a childminder's house and a) it was dirty (I don't just mean untidy/a bit unclean - i mean smelly and dirty) b)family members were smoking in the same room as monded children C) the children seemed to be given very little stimulus.

P8ss take if you ask me!..why would the op 'KNOW' what ofsted would do??

itneverrains · 03/11/2008 16:07

I feel really sad that I came on here for other opinions and SOME of you are accusing me of lying. If the CM suspected that it was me or somehow found out that I had reported her, it could have real implications for my family. I strongly suspect that the parents know about all the issues mentioned. If ofsted stopped her working the families that rely on her would miss out.

I asked because I can't speak to anyone about it in real life and needded to get it off my chest. Also I wanted to find out if I was over reacting.

I also feel that there is a good chance she will suspect me, do people honestly think I should report her and risk the backlash effecting my children when the parents of the minded children must know? Have you doubters thought about the fact the she may give her registration up if ofsted took action and work unregistered??? I think is better that she known to ofsted rather than going 'underground'.

Think about it this way, people like that give childminders a really bad name.

Report her, for our sake as well as any of the children in her care.

Ripeberry · 03/11/2008 17:27

I'm sorry you are in such a position but when you say there will be severe implications for your familly, do you mean to say that she or her familly are going to do you harm in some way?
If they are that nasty then they should be reported to Ofsted and the police.
Too many people turn a blind eye to this kind of thing because of bullies like them.
If she goes "underground" then the other parents must be either very stupid or just don't care about the safety of their children .
Report her and then call the police if she gets nasty...enough is enough.

BradfordMum · 03/11/2008 17:41

give me her details and I'LL report her

Simplyme · 03/11/2008 17:53

What on earth is the point of coming on here and asking for advice if you're not gojng to listen anyway??

You know there is a problem, that it is not right and yet you are going to sit back and do nothing??

Unbelievably selfish.

I am a nanny, I have seen nannies in the past abusing their charges, even when we were at their house on playdates. Did I sit back and say oh well the parents must have some idea and anyway the nanny would know it's me?

No I bloody didn't I reported the nanny. Young children are vulnerable and we as adults have a responsibility to protect them!

I'm sorry if it is harsh but I have seen children not being looked after properly before and it makes me sick but I also get mad at the ones who know something about it and still do nothing!!!

But it is not the same, is it? If it was abuse I would be straight on the phone to the SS. Smoking is a grey area.

I am listening - i wish i could give you the situatio details but god only knows who is reading this.

well said simply, I too reported a carer, (turned out to be child's teenage aunt) when what i saw was abuse.

turned out the family was already being looked into and what i reported gave them more evidence.

We have to look out for children they can't do it themselves.

itneverrains · 03/11/2008 18:12

For what it is worth - I am angry with the CM and do feel for the kids but think its a home from home situation.

OP posts:
liahgen · 03/11/2008 18:14

abuse does not have to mean sexual, physical in that they are hitting a child.

The people around them ARE abusing these children.

We all know the effects of passive smoking, particularly on young children.

Please do something, as someone else said, how bad could it get?

Or tell us, help us understand why it's impossible for you to do something, we are shocked at why you can't do something, yet you give us no reason to understand you

itneverrains · 03/11/2008 18:17

I'm signing off as I really don't feel able to, RL and all that.

for you.

good luck

Simplyme · 03/11/2008 18:38

IMO smoking around a child, ignoring them and having them crawl around in filth is abuse! ....but then maybe I just have high standards in childcare?

countPINKCHICKula · 03/11/2008 20:01

People have doubted you because you say all these bad things about her then say "oh well"..i hate the saying..Dont rock the boat! and thats what you are doing, not your child there = not your problem!, but it IS, you've seen it.
Those children ARE suffering abuse!..one of the 4 forms that OFSTED are SHt hot on NEGLECT*!

the cm would NOT know it was you, it could be a mindees parent, someone from school a neighbour..dont be paranoid!
You asked what we thought of her...we've told you and offered advice on what to do...you claim to KNOW what OFSTED will/wont know, but you have no way of knowing that and as a cm, im telling you this WOULD be taken seriously!..she IS giving good cm's a terrible name and if she did have her certificate revoked and went 'underground' then the parents wouldnt get help with CC costs so chances are wouldnt be able to use her!..lucky escape for them id say!

countPINKCHICKula · 03/11/2008 20:02

you can contact ANY cm on here and i KNOW we would put the complaint in for you!..then it wouldnt be you!
