Ok I know i should know but how often do we need to do obs and risk assessments?

I went to an intro day on EYFS but it was ages ago and i'm not sure if I've missed out on another more indepth course or if I'm just being daft I looked on the Bromley website and it has lots of forms etc which i have saved copies of but I wasn't clear on what the minimum numbers of observations per child per month, term, year etc where or even if there was a minimum number required. Same with a risk assessment. I've done one about a year ago - how often do I need to do one?

I was told to do 1 observation per child every 4-6 weeks (average 1 per month).

Risk accessments - house 1 per year
outings and group etc do 1 when you go and then update as needed if anything changes.

Forgot to say that we were given forms that we could photocopy for risk accessments and observations.

Thanks mumlove Thats really helpful. Should i have gone to a further training course then? I didn't get the forms when i went for the intro session - just the HUGE EYFS booklet thing with all the cards and CD.

Yes 2 more courses. 1 risk asscessment and 1 observations both were 2 evenings long.
And also the huge EYFS book has been reprinted so if you haven't got the new 1 phone up the number on the back and they will send you 1.

They showed you how to fill in the forms in the easiest way.

Thanks mumlove you have been a star as always I was worried that it was something i had to do and hadn't IYKWIM. I think I can fill out the forms ok - the Bromley website has samples of all theirs which is really helpful.
