CM Club: providing tea

I provide most of my children with supper. It may be macaroni cheese, roast chicken, bought fish fingers or home made fish cakes, cheesy tomato pasta etc.

Hardly ever to they all eat their supper.

Tonight one delightful child announced the reason why the children do not eat their tea is because they hate my food.

Okay, I am having a REALLY bad day today but what is the point of wasting food on kids who are not going to eat it?

I am NOT a crap cook and I try to provide a variety of things for the kids to try as well as things that I know they will like.

How old are they?

Can you sit down with them and do a bit of menu planning? It might be that one would eat cheesy pasta and one would prefer tomato pasta - so you could serve up the pasta and they could put the toppings on themselves.

I totally agree that it is so annoying to cook and for good food to go to waste.

Great idea about the menu plan!!

There are times when I will make pasta so one will have pesto, one cheese, one pesto and ketchup (my son!!).

other than that I am stumped!

Sorry: ages are 8, 6, 5, 4 and my nearly 4 year old son. So they can choose menus. Brilliant idea!

As a learning experience you can then break down the menus into ingredients needed for each dish. You could also get them to help you make a chart to go on the wall with the menu for the week on (4 year olds could draw some pictures of the food). As they have chosen the food for a particular day they are (hopefully) more likely to eat it and if they are reluctant you can remind them that it is their choice.
