I'm planning on holding a mini Olympics next week, is anyone doing similar? Can I pick all your brains??

I'm going to get them making medals from milk bottle caps on ribbon next Mon.

Tuesday, making an Olympic torch from kitchen rolls tubes and crepe/tissue paper and making Olympic rings piccie with loo roll dipped into paint

Weds the games! Have in mind bean bag on head race, rolling down the hill race,
wheelbarrow race for older ones, throwing bean bag into a bucket/hoop/whatever I can muster up on the day!

We make olympic torches today! It was great. We used the following template for them...
crafts.kaboose.com/olympic-torch.html

We also used these to put pictures of mindees with their torches in...

You have probably already seen this, but if not it might be of help!

chinese ribbons would be nice, roll up some card to make the handles then put a strip of crepe paper (or ribbon) onto it.

MrsWeasley · 07/08/2008 20:32

How about:
Bean bag races lots of variations of these.

Javelin throwing: (javelin long cardboard tubes)

Shot-put: with balloons filled with water (or water bombs ) only if outside

Discus throwing: with a Frisbee or a paper plate (our paper plates/discuss didn?t go very far)

We awarded points for the winner of each event and counted them up at the end.

Our medals were choc biscuits covered in foil with ribbons stuck on.

MrsWeasley · 07/08/2008 20:38

we also did some daft olympics like carrying choc buttons with chopsticks.

We also made Tangram and ate chinese food nothing too fancy: rice, noodles, spring rolls, prawn crackers etc

MrsWeasley · 07/08/2008 20:58

I'm gone

MrsFluffleHasAWuffle · 08/08/2008 10:22

lol Mrs you'll be back

Shoshe - oh lucky you! enjoy!

SBelle - thank you very much, hadn't seen first link, have got others though, that torch looks a bit better than my trial one with kitchen roll so will use that one instead

We did a bit about Chinese food last month so just going to concentrate on the Sport side of it and ignore the China thing

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) have a nice olympic resource that you could take bits from, if needed.

MrsFluffleHasAWuffle · 08/08/2008 10:30

See, I knew you'd be back thanks!
