CM car hire - insurance

It must be that time of year, lots of people are asking about car insurance!

Has anyone ever hired a car as a CM, i.e. for an outing? And did you have to get some sort of special add-on insurance for the day as a childminder?

No experience of that I'm afraid. Perhaps contact a local hire company and ask them about it. I would suspect that they have various insurance policies they could sell you, but the cost could be high.
