Calling all parents - would you use a cm who doesn't have a car?

Am seriuosly thinking about selling my car what with diesel so expensive now and it just costs a bomb to run the blessed thing! We'd then be a one car family but i can walk dd to school when she starts in sept and there is a bus route right at the end of my road so can get to town etc. as far as cming goes i can wlak to toddlers twice a week, walk to sports centre for swimming and soft play.

so would you think it a problem if i didn't have car?

I catch a bus (2 min walk away) with 3 under 5s. One is in a pram (locked wheels) and the two older boys sit in the chair next to me. They love it! When we are out and about they hold onto the pram handles.. the four of us get around just fine

I do not take them far on a bus, mostly a 15 minute drive or so, then 15 minutes back.

I put dc's excellent traffic sense down to the fact that they were drilled by their non-driving CM. It was only when dd started needing a wheelchair that I had to switch to a CM with a car.

Romy - It's advised in First Aid courses to never drive a child to hospital yourself, you cannot look after the child when driving ;) and to always call an ambulance as they can be treating them on the way.

I don't drive, and even if I did, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking other peoples children out in my car ( plus couldn't fit them all in anyway!)

No-ones ever mentioned not driving as a problem, all are happy their children are walking about and getting the recommended 1 hour of exercise/fresh air.
