I am in the process of becoming a registered minder right now and everything is going so well. I have a lovely friend who is going to be my assistant and really its all looking very positive. Will probably ask loads of questions over the next few months!

Just wondering - I was thinking of getting an accountant to do all my taxes & things as I will be self employed. But my assistant has an accounting qualification and has offered to do it for me which would be cheaper for me and also better for her. Is this feasible? What exactly is involved in doing your own accounting? Do most of you do it yourselves or do you hire accountants to do it for you? Thanks!

I do all mine myself.

All the details of what you can claim for are probably on the NCMA website. It covers things like council tax, heating, lighting, petrol etc. It tells you what percentage you can claim, based on the amounts of hours you work.

It really not that difficult, and I file my tax return on-line.
