we live in Brixton in South london and our 14 m old goes to a former work nursery in Holborn for 3 days/wk. Nice place and he's settled there but the commute on buses etc v tough. From November, we have to move to 4 days/wk. Would people recommend using a local cm for one day/wk? Is it feasible? Or in your experience too disruptive? He's quite sociable and adaptable so my instinct says fine but others have warned against.

My dd goes to nursery for two days and grandmas for two days. the arrangement works really well for us and she is totally settled in both environments.

You should go with your instincts- IME it's often the best route.

Thanks. I'm just a bit worried about introducing him to someone completely new - whereas I guess your daughter already knew her granny quite well. Plus haven't found anyone willing to do one day a wk yet anyway but will keep looking!

i have 2 different children who do part time with me/nursery and parents

both sets of parents are off monday and friday
i have 1 of the children 2 days and they go to nursery 1 day
i have the other child 3 afternoons and he is at nursery 3 mornings

works well

We did CM for two days and nursery for two days when the nursery didn't have room for DS. He was fine, think he relished the different types of care and found the CM more relaxing than nursery. He got more sleep at the CM!

I'd say go for it, if you can find a nice CM.

Ellpea

I'm a chidminder and have a 15 month old for one day until Mum can have three days at nursery (he currently attends for two).

He was fine with me for the one day up until he started at the nursery for two and is now quite unsettled and does cry a while.

Other childminders I've spoken to in the past about this have said the same.

It also depends on the child's age but I think just the one day takes a while to settle in.

Also, won't it be unsettling for you running from nursery to childminder and having two sets of paperwork etc.
