Would you consider using a childminder who advertised by plastering her car with stickers

Or would she look desperate?

Also what do you call the stickers on your car?

& are they expensive?

wouldn't bother me No idea of cost though!

hunkermunker · 31/05/2008 22:15

They're called "car stickers"

Or something else.

Depends what the stickers say, Katy.

If 'honk if you're horny' - I'd steer clear.

CarGirl · 31/05/2008 22:17

I think I'd think but then I don't like seeing chidminders at various toddler groups with CM logo sweatshirts either! Don't know why but perhaps because the CMs I have witnessed wearing them are not the greatest CMs I know.

What's the latest, Katy?

Are you still planning the nursery?

KatyMac · 31/05/2008 22:27

Yep

Working on floor plans - wanna see?

Doesn't seem to effect my insurance. Policy stated that they wanted to be informed of any 'modifications' - so I sent them a picture. No change in premium.

If you decide to do it, do it professionally. Don't get magnetic sheets (they can fall off, especially if you go in a car wash) and they look temporary - well they are temporary.

Consult with sign writers, many have experience of doing custom designs on a vehicle. When I had it done about 3 years go, cost was in region of £400 - so it isn't cheap. It is however very effective, people notice me driving around. I've had parents contact me, having seen my car.

Think there is a pic of my car on my profile... will check and if there isn't, I'll add it.

nannynick · 01/06/2008 00:57

Try contacting Mike Amiss to discuss your requirements. Think he is about 25 miles from you - so local ish.

twentypence · 01/06/2008 01:06

Here (NZ) they would grant you better tax writeoffs for your car. I haven't gone down that route - I'm not a childminder - but I would if I wanted to expand a lot or if I was driving a lot of miles and wanted to claim more lovely tax back.

But I need to get 60 people each term to use me, whereas with childminding you wouldn't need everyone to see your advert.

chloemegjess · 01/06/2008 08:21

What about just a car window sticker? Thats what I was going to do once I have sorted myself out with a logo etc. That would be alot cheaper. Pretty sure you can get them from ebay.

chloemegjess · 01/06/2008 08:37

OR what about....this

Is a window sticker, under £10 but goes right across your back windscreen?

twentypence · 01/06/2008 08:56

No that looks tacky, it wouldn't inspire me with confidence. A logo and a phone number on a door would look more professional.

nannynick · 01/06/2008 12:07

If you are going to do it, get it done professionally. The signwriters know what will look good and what will look tacky. Give them an idea of what you are after and let them design something. It takes quite a long time to do, think mine took around 6 hours, so it's roughly a day to do... so you are without that vehicle all day.

alibubbles · 01/06/2008 15:00

katymac, a couple of childminders I know regretted doing it as they found they got reported to Ofsted for all sorts of stupid little things without any reason, so think carefully!

KatyMac · 01/06/2008 20:05

That's concerning - hmm

I have an NCMA sticker in the back of my car thats all.
There's no way I would have signage on the car's paintwork even though it is a T Reg. Its the family car as well as the work car.

I do get some funny looks when people see me with a car load of children, only one of the 5 is mine!

mo247x · 03/06/2008 21:32

Hi there, i am reg childminder and Vista Print do the Magnetic ones which nanny nick isnt keen on. But i dont have £400 to spend on signing at the moment being a new childminder. Also as they are magnetic you can take them off at weekends or going on hols. To be honest everyone who has seen mine have only had nice things to say and it means when you stop at schools and toddler groups people can get your details and call you without having to stop you when you are busy with school run etc. On vista print they are 2 for £16.99 plus you can get a whole lot of free things with your logo on. Happy marketing

KatyMac · 04/06/2008 19:07

Thanks for that - I will have a look (notwithstanding nick's displeasure)
