Question For CM's re:Courses and Ofsted gradings

Hi..have been 'forewarned' by our CM that her Ofsted report this time round won't be as high a result as previously (she was 'outstanding' last time expecting satisfactory to good this time)..she says this is due to the fact that she has not attented enough courses to satify Ofsteds policies???
Obviously I can go and look up her report when it goes online, but is this true that if you do not attend all the courses you are 'marked down' ?..thanks

Unfortunately paddlinglikemad - you can be marked down just because the Inspector doesn't like you

If she is missing any of her statutory courses without a good reason then she is in the wrong. These are courses like First Aid (every 3 yrs) Food Hygiene (every 3 yrs) health & Safety (new one only been around for about a year in this area)

But First Aid has a year waiting list in this area & if you don't realise you could get caught out

Plus we now have EYFS courses which are compulsory, however there aren't enough to go round in my area - so some people will be left out

It isn't straight forward tbh

Also if you have had Outstanding previously (ie top 3%) then you need to be considerably better than you were last time to get even 'good'. They mark you against how good you were not how good your competitors are (which I think is very unfair)

Katymac, i wish we had any EYFS training, we have had one 2 hour session where they handed out the pack - I'd had it for 3 months already!

I would think it quite difficult to get 2 overall outstandings, I don't doubt my ability to do it, but I think that the children I had last time made it for me! The ones I have at the moment do not gel as well, so the dynamics could change things.

we have 7 O/S in our now disbanded network, all coming up for second graded inspections. Watch this space!

Your CM is right

I will be due an inspection in October, so will be inspected on the EYFS.............my first EYFS training course has been booked for January 2010. I will be follwing EYFS obviously, but will not have had any training so will be muddling through the best that I can.

It does make me a bit angry that there does not seem to be much forward planning for CM's

I was outstanding, so no idea what I will get next time

paddlinglikemad · 29/05/2008 21:21

Katymac..didn't realise that you were marked against your previous result thats quite unfair!!..not sure what courses she hasn't attended might ask if the conversation comes around..think that from previous chats though it might be the EYFS as she wasn't happy about having to go thru' that...
thanks for all the replies
