Childminders TV

Will all childminders realistically have the TV on at some point during the day like when older kids are home from school?

Most likely, yes.

Abracadabra12345 · 20/06/2025 20:24

Yes

stargirl1701 · 20/06/2025 20:25

Ours did. I was looking for a normal home experience so I was happy with that.

MouldyCandy · 20/06/2025 21:36

Mine didn't. Part of the reasons why we chose that setting.

ReallyWildShow · 20/06/2025 21:59

Very likely. Lots of nurseries and schools have TV every day in EYFS too.

Daisymae55 · 20/06/2025 22:08

Possibly. Even nurseries and preschools can.

We’ve been viewing preschools recently and some were screen free and some weren’t. The ones that weren’t had one episode of something like numberblocks a week and then used it occasionally for things like kids yoga - these things wouldn’t bother me.

I’m a childminder and, usually, at the end of the day after dinner and tidying it away we have it on for the last 20 minutes. Generally it’s only with the children who stay later in the day, most finish beforehand. Occasionally, I might put it on for 10 minutes during the day as a kind of chill out time if needed (usually we read). Sometimes, if I’ve had a little one who has just dropped naps, parents will ask for them to watch a bit of TV laid on the sofa whilst they adjust to not sleeping. I’ve only ever done that if the others are sleeping. I’ve also done a movie afternoon, usually just before they stop for Christmas.

the use of TV isn’t bad, used in moderation it can be great and also can be a fantastic learning tool if you choose what they watch carefully. It’s also more like home often and a childminder becomes like their second home.
