Morning all, thanks Pc, haven't had a maccy D for aaagggeeessss!

Just had 4 very nice firemen around to do my fire safety check (shame I'm old enough to be their mum). They fitted a new detector downstairs and then let mindees and myself look around their engine- great fun and littlest mindee loved it.

PinkChick · 20/05/2008 10:56

ooh i keep meaning to do this as well..do they give you a set time they will come?? as i have ltos of school runs when i have the littlys?..also would they change old detectors for shiny new ones???

They phoned this morning and asked if it was convenient to come round today. told them I have nursery run then mad lunchtime before next nursery run they said they would make me their first appointment and 20mins later a shiny new fire engine turned up!

It was an old detector they changed, the new one will last approx 10 yrs (hopefully) before the battery dies and they will replace it free of charge when they next visit in 8 yrs time. By which time I could be old enough to be their grandma .

PinkChick · 20/05/2008 11:43

wow, will def give them a ring then..the kdis will love it!

Oh yum, Maccy D's

So, what's this about Fireman then!!! How do I go about getting a load of them round to mine???

BoysAreLikeDogs · 20/05/2008 12:40

oooh firefighters with their long hoses

Waiting for my afternoon crew

Have a good day all

hennipenni · 20/05/2008 13:30

LT, just ring your local firestation and ask them for a free home safety check. Worth it to ogle make sure your house is as safe as possible.

hennipenni · 20/05/2008 13:32

Oh whilst I'm here, has anybody got a policy about vulnerable children they wish to share. I have a mindee starting who a certain member of their family is not allowed to see/touch/speak/have any contact with and I'm struggling with writing a policy etc.

PinkChick · 20/05/2008 16:37

i dont henni but id write something like...."(childs name) should only be collected and dropped off by x, y and z.
Under no circumstances should anyone other than these persons be able to collect or have ANY contact with (childs name) whilst in my care"..something along those lines???

Alternativly if in policy form, something along lines of , please fill in list of confirmed family memeber or friends able to collect your child on form x, no one other than the people named may at any time collect any child.
If enforcements or court orders are in place due to family problems / divorce you would need to use a seperate sheet to detail these conditions"????

Oh lordy! I've been busier so far this week than since I started! And I'm pooped!! Mindees all being good though, apart from one after schoolie who I am finding increasingly difficult and I am not enjoying it.
Next week I will be giving notice. It's upsetting my dd and me so there is no point continuing. Plus, once the baby comes I will not be doing a school run to that school anyway so have decided to get out now rather than wait!
One of my mindees gets really upset when he has to go home. I feel really bad about it now as it must be horrible for the parents. I said today that I felt bad but they were absolutley find and I think are just pleased that they know mindee loves coming to mine!!

Whoever opens the staff room tomorrow, could you please follow suit and bring egg mcmuffins as I missed out today but could really do with one!! Ta

I didn't know the fire station did free home saftey checks! I certainly think I will be making a phone call now! DD and mindees would love that! And I wouldn't be too adverse to it myself

Shoshe · 20/05/2008 18:39

Oh you lucky lot, getting firemen in the house

We can't on a Army Camp, we have Fire officers who do the safety check, and I can assure you the mindees wouldnt be bothered about ours coming in, ............. they see him everyday, its DH !

MaureenMLove · 20/05/2008 19:02

You could take them on a visit to the local fire station though, Shoshe, if you're really desparate! I've just rung our local station, to arrange a visit for me my Rainbows!

Shoshe · 20/05/2008 19:04

Now thats a thought, but we only have a volunteer fire staion here (I think that is what it is called) the sort that you work normally but can get called out on a fire.

looneytune · 20/05/2008 19:43

Thanks henni. I will wait until I've had baby I think as too much going on (plus would prefer to have lost some weight before having yummy fireman in my house )

MaureenMLove · 20/05/2008 20:51

Go futher afield then! Find a station that is full time! They are all very friendly. Nearly all the stations between me and central London (12 miles) are happy to serve! (But that's a whole other story!)

hennipenni · 20/05/2008 21:08

We're also going on an organised visit to a fire station in June during National Childminding Week. Our topic during the next half term is firemsn sam!

LOL at Mo's stations being happy to serve!

Shoshe · 20/05/2008 21:09

within the 12 mile radius of us there are NO Staions!

We is rural memeber [takes straw out of mouth and doffs cap to the lunnun ladeee]

Will talk to DB who is a copper in Salisbury which is about 20 miles away and see if he can sort something

mumlove · 20/05/2008 21:36

The CM group that I'm in goes about 1 a year.
Come over to Poole Shoshe, we the mindees enjoy it

Shoshe · 20/05/2008 21:50

i wil ML you are prbably the closest full time station to us.

Will they get their hoses out fo rus

MaureenMLove · 20/05/2008 22:06

Oo er! Will you be sliding down their pole too!

mumlove · 21/05/2008 07:34

Yes, much fun with their hoses, but not allowed to pole side.

mumlove · 21/05/2008 07:35

slide not side.
