I have never looked after children professionally though I love children. But to make a long story short I am getting paid to look after someones DS tomorrow for a few hours. I cant wait!! He is 6 - my DS is 21 months. Just wanted to say I was happy about it!! Any pointers?

6 year old boys can be very active... need a good walk every day. So go outdoors somewhere.
Tomorrow is Monday, isn't he going to school?

I am picking him up from school and keeping him for a few hours. There is a park in between his school and my house.

Ah, after-school care. I would suggest you pack some snacks, pick him up from school and head to the park. If it is sunny - could even have picnic tea at the park.

Is this something that may become a regular thing?

I really dont know! I would be happy for it to be regular but hopefully I will get a better feel for that tomorrow?

Thanks for the suggestions! My only worry about taking him to the park is what if he tries to do something daring and breaks his neck? I am sure I will be fine just want to be sure he and my DS are both safe and happy!

I doubt he would do that kind of thing - at least on the first time you care for him. First timers I find can often be on their best behaviour, it's once you get to know them well that things can get tricky

If it does become a regular thing, you will need to look at Later Years Childminder Registration. It is likely to be required, if you care for him for over 2 hours, at your home.

Hope tomorrow goes well. I'm sure you will enjoy the challenge.

Thanks!! I will let you know how it goes!
