Despite advertising on Gumtree, nobody has applied for my part-time nanny place. HELP!

I have been advertising on Gumtree for the last 8 weeks for a part-time nanny for September. Nobody has applied!!!

Am I advertising too early? I really want to get this sorted asap, so that I can enjoy the summer without having to worry about childcare arrangments for next academic year.

My lovely nanny is staring her PGCE in September, am I gonna be left having to ask the ex nanny (who was an absoulute pain in the arse) back?

How part time is it? Is it difficult hours?

ziopin · 16/05/2008 10:01

22 hours per week. 12-5 (Monday & Tuesday) 12-4 (Wednesday-Friday)

Not too bad I think?

Try nannyjob instead.

Put your own ad up and then send a message to any of the nannies that you think might look intersting.

silentmadge · 16/05/2008 10:10

They are quite short hours, no good for a nanny with dc in school and not easy to fit another job round.

squiffy · 16/05/2008 10:27

If you can add 8 hours via babysitting or somethign to bring it up to 30 then you might have a better response maybe?

KatieDD · 16/05/2008 10:58

Where are you i might know somebody interested.

AtheneNoctua · 16/05/2008 13:01

"I gonna be left having to ask the ex nanny (who was an absoulute pain in the arse) back? "

(Athene slaps ziopin)

If you ask her back, I will send some nice men with white suit round to your house to take you away.

Remind me od the possibiliteis of live-in vs live-out, kids ages, etc.

ilovethecake · 16/05/2008 13:55

Hi, can i ask you where abouts do you live? And the ages of your child/ren? And last of all would you consider a nanny with their own child/ren?? Cos i may be interested!!

ilovethecake · 16/05/2008 18:46

Ok, i have spent nearly an hour trying to find your ad on Gumtree with no luck, please give me a clue to where it is!!!!

paros · 16/05/2008 18:48

ilovethecake · 16/05/2008 21:31

Paros, i wont write cos again, sorry if i upset you!!

paros · 16/05/2008 22:31

only joking , (cant stand text speak ) showing my age lol

foxinsocks · 16/05/2008 22:32

it's miles MILES too early for September on gumtree

I only started getting replies around 4 weeks before the job would start and most of them came in the last week!

I think you'd be quite lucky to get September starters now unless they were doing major planning in advance

ilovethecake · 16/05/2008 22:44

Foxinsocks, i've been looking for a nanny job for a while now and tbh wouldn't mind knowing that i had a "fab job" to start in September, even though Ziopin you will get a bigger and better response nearer the time!!

Still wouldn't mind knowing the details of your job!!!

foxinsocks · 16/05/2008 22:46

you are a good planner!

imananny · 17/05/2008 13:55

tbh i dont think you are planning too far ahead - in 2 weeks time we are in June

most nannies I know have to give 2 months notice, therefore leaving you just over a month to find, interview, check ref, interview 2nd time and offer a job - to be ready for sept

doublechocolate · 18/05/2008 20:35

It maybe the hours or location which have stopped people applying not the start date nannies I know would be happy to wait if it was the right job and like yourself enjoy the summer. Can you give more details I have a friend who is looking?

ziopin · 19/05/2008 12:48

I'm in Cardiff, South Wales. Anybody interested?

Hey Athene they kids did quite like her though!! And as it only 1 more year before ds2 starts full time school?!!!

Are you serious? I think your memory is failing you. She was horrible. And are you going to let her bring the baby too. Please go read your old threads and then come back and tell me you still think it's an option.

Do your kids each have their own room? Can you put them both into one room and get an au pair. It will be sooo much easier for you.

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2008 11:18

Have you looked on nannyjob? I just did a quick search for Cardiff and I think you probably have some options.

Is there any chance of doing live-in?

ziopin · 20/05/2008 11:51

Have just re-read old threads! Your so right!!! Will check out nannyjob.

Dont think I could cope with an au-pair, sounds like a bloody nightmare finding one to start with!

OP posts:
AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2008 12:02

On the contrary, Ziopin, I think having a live-in is much easier. My kids share a room so that we can have a n office and a live-in nanny. It is fine. Lots of people would be willing to come work in Cardiff who do not already live there. But if you look for a live out you have to find someone who already lives there.

It depends on your personality too though. Some people dodn't really want to share their house with a stranger. I, on the other hand, actually like to have the company. It's nice to come home to a lived in house.
