Ad Hoc childcare

I am thinking of applying for a promotion that would mean more travel for me. Currently DH travels with work quite a bit but I am almost exclusively office based so we have regular childcare arrangements to fit with my working hours. DH does a fair share of the pick ups but if he's away it didn't matter because I can easily cover.

The nature of my possibly new job and his job is that we wouldn't necessarily be able to decide when we are away and so, while we will try to cover for each other as much as possible, there are going to be times when neither of us are home before 8/9pm.

We're don't have grandparents locally enough to help with this kind of thing so we're going to have to look for paid childcare to cover the gaps. I have no idea where to start looking for ad hoc wrap around and evening childcare. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start?

How old are your children? This sounds so detrimental to them if they’re still at an age where childcare is required.

Register with childcare.co.uk and advertise..there might be someone who would like ad-hoc work..you might have to offer higher pay to attract the right person..
Good luck with your search..

They are 6, 9 and 12. Not sure why it would be so detrimental to them. We're not talking about both being away for weeks at a time, just occasional late nights. Neither of us work at weekends so there will still be plenty of family time

Thanks. I'll have a look at that.

And as a nanny for over 40 years I've done lots of this type of work and if you choose the right person and they get to know your children they can become part of your family..
