Nanny Salary Increase - What Should it Be?

SLH2727 · 13/05/2008 21:51

Hello,

I have had a nanny for a year now and she has asked us to update her contract with certain things, which I think is a subtle way of asking for a salary increase.

We are happy to do this but have no idea what percentage we should give as we are really new to this.

Any advice would be really welcomed.

Many thanks.

SLH

I think 5% is the norm, having said that DH got 3% which is just above inflation apparently

5%!!
I got 1.9

Have you and DP/DH had salary increases in the last year? What did you get? Just a thought for a starting point.

5% sounds generous. Maybe do a bit of research into nanny salaries locally and see how she compares, think about how well she is doing, how happy you are with her, and base it on that.

If you're really happy and want to motivate her and can afford it, you could consider 5%. If you're reasonably happy and/or are finding things a bit tight moneywise and/or haven't had much or any of an increase yourselves this year, and just want to make sure she keeps up with inflation, less would be fine.

Did you get a rise yourself at your work? If so, perhaps pass on the same percentage.
Don't think there is any norm. 2%-5% would sound reasonable given inflation - CPI hit 3% in April 08.

we gave our nanny 4.4% at christmas which was just a round number in rl money. She seemed happy with that.

I think you give waht you can and what she deserves. If finances are tight and you can only pass on what you got then she should be happy with that.

We did 5% quite recently.

1dilemma · 14/05/2008 21:43

SO I don't think my nanny would be happy with my pay rise

Thanks for all of your advise it has been a great help.

We are going to go with just over 3% which we think is fair.

Many thanks again.
