Worried about no naps at preschool.

DD starts preschool in April, she will be 2y 8m.

It’s a great preschool, ofsted outstanding and we were really pleased with what we saw but they don’t offer naps. DD is still sleeping 1-3pm and is feral if she doesn’t have it… should I just assume she’s going to survive the day? She will be attending 8-4:30.

I mean I guess she will just have to manage but they said 9/10 kids have stopped napping by the time they start and the ones that are still napping are usually too excited to miss out so stay up.

How many days will she be there?

My DS stopped napping at nursery around 2 years 2 months. But still very much needed it. Though this was only 2 days a week. Evenings afterwards were hell at first but after a couple of months he got more used to it. He's carried on napping at home 2 or 3 days a week.

They're all different though. His older brother continued to nap right up until he started school, when nursery had told me at 3 he was too old to sleep in the day while there.

It may be a case of just building up stamina but you won't know until you try it for a few weeks.

I’m in this predicament too. LO will be 2yr 5months. I love everything about the preschool but the no nap policy. I’m having to consider a nursery place for maybe a year first as he absolutely needs sleep, I’m peeling him off the ceiling if he doesn’t have a nap and is inconsolable by 5pm. It’s really putting me off. He does however, have severe FOMO, so if he goes to preschool I’m hoping he’s going to be so busy all day he’s too occupied to lose his mind and I can just offer a really early bedtime on those days. (She says optimistically!)

Do you work from home? Can you pick her up at nap time for her to have her nap?

One of mine started at a nursery before she was 3 when she still had a nap at lunchtime. Nursery didn't facilitate naps for children her age, so she would just lie down on the rug and sleep. They left her to it. I doubt she napped as well as she would have at home but she transitioned to not needing a nap that way.

That's young to start a pre school, can you not do a nursery so they'd be in the age 2-3 room, they'll still have time set aside for naps every day for majority of the kids

If no one else is sleeping she might not want to anyway.
It’s a tricky one. DD was a big sleeper but at nursery she might manage an hour whereas at home it was 3-4 hours.
she might manage but the thing I found when DD started school/dropped naps is that she used to be unbearable on Saturday afternoons as it would catch up with her. So basically we did not thing and had a very quiet day instead.
