First Nanny payslip due and I'm stuck!

I am in danger of becoming just what I swore I would not be - an unreliable employer. My nanny started on 8 April and I have had to remind HMRC to send me my new employer's starter pack - and it's not here yet. I have sent her salary for April electronically, and I know how much the gross pay and deductions are, but I'm not sure how to do the payslip. I have trawled the internet for some templates but there aren't any free ones. I think there's one in the HMRC pack but I can't wait for that!! Can I just draw up my own template - perhaps based on the payslip I get from my own employer? Any advice welcomed - mumsnet has sorted my other nanny queries for me so I'm sure this won't take long...

I'm sure you could give her a "template" for the time being but it would be best to give her a proper one when your pack arrives.

It would be fine to base it on your own payslip, the same details would be required on hers ... tax, ni, gross pay, net pay, method of payment (in this case BACS)

HTH :D

Get a duplicate book (ideally), or just a notebook from your local stationers. Alternatively, print using your computer, printing two copies - so you keep one on file.

Employees Name

The Date
£
Gross Pay xxxx.xx

Employees NICs (xxx.xx)

Tax Deducted (xxx.xx)

NET PAY £ xxxx.xx

Then on the bottom of the pay slip write your Employer's PAYE reference code
xxx/xxxxxxx

That will then do fine, it covers the essentials required - see direct.gov.uk Payslips - and includes a little extra as well, to enable it to be tied to a P60 later on.
If you are making any other deductions, put those below Tax Deducted.

Example of a more complex payslip - showing things like Tax Paid Year To Date, Deductions for Union membership, Method of payment etc.

But I would suggest keeping it as simple as possible.
