How did you know that your childminder was the one for you?

When you were choosing a childminder, how did you decide on the one for you? I'm seeing two childminders this week (the only two in my area with vacancies). Even though I have a list of questions I want to ask them, I'm still wondering how I'm going to choose between them - it feels like such a big decision as I have never left DD with anyone outside the family before.

What were the factors that made you think "yes, this is the one"?

When my DD, who was not an easy sleeper at this point, fell asleep on potential CM's lap during the first visit. She was only four months old and was quite fussy about where and when she slept, but she just seemed to relax and drift off. I decided that if DD felt that comfortable with her, it was good enough for me. We are still with her and very happy.

The one I chose (going back 6 years!) was the one who "felt" right. She did similar things to me during the day (painting/baking/park etc) and cookd similar food. She was warm and loving and obviously ahd a great relationship with her own children.

When I chose a cm for ds, it was the one who I felt comfortable with and took an interest in him!

I visited so many cm's; a few where their homes were spotless and no toys in sight (not a good sign for a busy cm), some where they didn't even greet my ds, talk to him or offer any toys, and I'm sorry to say there was one who I wouldn't even leave my goldfish with, let alone my ds!

Go with who you feel comfortable with and who interacts with your child, more so than with you I think. If your child looks and feels comfortable and you are too, then great!

I let my ds choose by his reaction to them (he was only 2 and never been away from me), so chose the one where he actually left my side!

Watch your dc and go with your gut instinct, you'll know if it feels right or not. I only saw two, one so awful I still think about her and the one ds is still with who is completely lovely. We both knew that we liked her straightaway

Thanks everyone
I'm seeing both this week so hopefully it'll just be obvious when I meet them.
