CHILDMINDERS - occupational aches and pains

KaySamuels · 17/04/2008 19:59

Okay so I have realised this job is not kind to my body and I need to start looking after myself more. Is it just me who has...

back ache (from carrying babies/toddlers/pushing double buggies up kerbs)

occasional headaches

foot probs (from pounding streets with double buggy - don't drive)

dry knees from kneeling on floor

dry hands from constant handwashing/pot washing

?????

Not a moany thread BTW as am loving childminding at the mo - more to see if it is just me falling apart!

Can I put a chiropodist and back massage on my expenses?? {hopeful emotion}

On the plus side childminding keeps me fit!!

I've not been doing it long but omg the state of my hands!! I've got dry cracked skin between my fingers and it really hurts! Never had anything like this before. I've been dreaming of a dishwasher / cleaner for a little while now

KaySamuels · 17/04/2008 20:17

My dry cracked skin between fingers came into contact with my johnson's holiday skin lotion last night. My hands look grim. My knees have also been affected by this incident.

Good lord, yes Kay - it's grim on my hands. Dry, cracked - and I am using my dd's special cream for her skin!

shoshe · 17/04/2008 20:31

CM, I have both, I put half of the cost of my 1st dishwasher on my books, cos Enviromental Health advised I had one, and cleaner comes in 3 hours a week, and I put her wage on my books, after all she does scrub said kitchen including fridge, mic, and worktops to enviros standards, as well as bathrooms toilets and all the hoovering

KaySamuels · 17/04/2008 20:44

Bows down to shoshe
No room for a dishwasher but the cleaner is highly tempting!

I use ds's eczema cream crace but to no avail..

KaySamuels · 17/04/2008 21:05

Oh god, me too!! Hands never been this bad. Need to go and get some more aqueous cream as that really helps me. And my knees - well they never looked great, but now they looked calloused and terrible!!

southernbelle77 · 18/04/2008 07:15

Ummmm, a cleaner!! Umm.....

Will have to think about that!

shoshe · 18/04/2008 07:31

Think dmo has one too, sb

MindingMum · 18/04/2008 07:49

Oooh so excited at that idea shoshe
I've been giving some serious thought to getting a cleaner but it hadn't occured to me to put her wages through my books.

Would it be above board to do it though?

shoshe · 18/04/2008 07:55

As far as I know yes, love, a nursery would have acleaner, and as Ofsetd seem to be trying to turn us into a Nursery, I dont see why not.

My cleaner does all the places the children use, especially the kitchen and bathrooms.

She wipes down all the fingermarks in the playroom and off the doorways sort of things, she is only in for 3 hours on a Friday, but it makes such a difference.

I dont have to spend all my weekends cleaning now, and have more time to do things like clean the pushchairs, put the toys through the dishwasher sort of cleaning.

hennipenni · 18/04/2008 09:34

Kay, I can't recommend Bodyshops Hemp hand creanm highly enough. I have excema on my hands which are also really dry due to washing up, helping children wash etc and the hand cream is fanatistic, you only need a tiny bit as it goes a long way but deffo is worth the money.

ayla99 · 18/04/2008 10:21

This was recommended to me:www.hqhair.com/code/products.asp?PageID=685&SectionID=770&FeaturedID=5711&FeaturedProduct=6127&pID=1

My hands would bleed from getting so dry & rough but since I've been using this the flare ups aren't so bad at all.

KaySamuels · 19/04/2008 08:33

I am extremely tempted by a cleaner.

I use to buy the hemp lip balm from there henni and had completely forgotten how good it was, will go have a look.

Ayla that site has loadsa nice stuff, like the look of that hand cream.

I am off officially off work now! Of to haven on Monday to 'rest'.
