Free hours and universal credit

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some advice.

I am currently claiming universal credit which pays up to 85 percent of my childcare each month. I am in a good routine with budgeting for this monthly as I pay more or less the same amount from my budget each month (after the 85 percent).

I have received a letter and text encouraging my to apply for the free fifteen hours for my son. However his nursery will obviously only allow these hours in term time which means when it is half term I will have to pay the full amount. I won’t be able to claim this back from UC until the following month which would mean I would basically struggle on the month of every half term until I could claim the money back the following month.

my question is, is it compulsory that I apply for the free term time hours if I am on UC? Or can I simply ignore the letter and carry on claiming the 85 percent from UC. Or if I am completely wrong about the whole thing please let me know?

confused 😕 😂

Have you asked the nursery if they offer stretched funding?

my son has the free hours stretched out over the year, means he gets less in the week but the amount paid is the same every month. 1 day a week is free and I pay for the other 4
