I am currently job searching and my cv was passed onto a family recently. Anyway, they are not ready to interview yet because of circumstances, but are interested in seeing me sometime over the next few weeks.

However, the other evening i received a response to my gumtree ad, requesting to see my cv. I emailed it off to the mum this afternoon, and it turns out its the same family who have shown interest in me through my agency. What were the chances eh?

So what i'm now worrying about is what happens when the see me? I really do want to still have the back up of an agency, or can they now see it as a private response

I'm very confused now, as this has never happened to me before so i don't really know where i will stand.

Any ideas?

I would just let them know when you see them that you would rather by employed through the agency.

If agency introduced you first, then you should be going through the agency.

Agree with Nick - you were told about the job through the agency and therefore should interview through them

Seems to me that they dont want to pay agency fees (fair enough, they cost a lot of money) as why say to agency they arent ready to inteview, yet are now going through gumtree.

What you could do is say to the agency that you have been contacted through gumtree via your ad, and ask the agency if they are still dealing with the family - if they arent.then go ahead and see them, but if they are, then you are likely to annoy the agency and they might not tell you about other jobs in the future (some can be very petty)
