Can you imagine ever trying to tell your nanny what to wear?

My friend (really, a friend, it's not me!) had a bit of a strange situation today.

Her nanny came to work dressed in an outfit much more suitable for, I don't know, going to a club or something, rather than child minding. 4 inch heels, skin tight jeans, strapless top revealing a lot of midriff....
....it was quite warm today where we live, properly spring like, but even so.

She was a bit taken aback, but didn't really feel she could comment on it. I couldn't think of what I would say in that situation either.

Would you have said anything? Or is it really not up for discussion?
(Her little girl is 17 months old).

Hmm.. i am a nanny and i wear whatever i want for work

i think the heels sound a bit impractical for running around after a toddler, but other than that i dont think your friend should say anything.

I was once asked to put shoes on by the mother when I was a nanny but she was hosting a dinner party and I was helping in the kitchen.

If said nanny can do her job properly and comfortably, then there isn't a lot the mother can say.

I think the 4 inch heels is an issue. How could the nanny work in those! Not sure about the outfit, but I think your friend could have asked her to wear sensible shoes.

i wear strappy tops when sunny but always cover my tummy (its fat)

but wouldnt wear 4inch heels to work

cant even wear them out in eve without faling over, and thats without drinking

very impratical imo

maybe your friend could make a joking remark of, wow,how do you run after my 17mth in those, i cant even walk in 4 inches

I had it in my contract in one of my positions that i was to wear suitable clothing to work....
My boss explained that i was representing her and her child when out and about. I completely agreed with it, and had no problems following it as i was never pulled up in 4yrs i worked there!
We did however have a friend who was a nanny who dressed exactly as you described every single day and the mothers at the school used to laugh!
Was it a one off and maybe the nanny was going out straight from work?

Oh i am jealous though-i'd give anthing to wear a top revealing my midriff now and look good!

Yes, your friend can tell her nanny she is unsuitably dressed for work.

When I worked in professional services firm, we regularly got "information sessions" on what was appropriate clothing for work.

I once had 2 interviews in 1 day -job 1 was v poorly paid position in a private day nursery.

job2 was a position within the socil services working with socil services .....i wore a red cullotes suit(cullotes sp are shorts that look like skirt )it was v smart at the private nursery she commented upon my outfit clearly she didnt approve(i was 17 it was 1991)i had no time to change and had thought the outfit appropriate indeed my lecturer had advised us on suitable clothes ...i dashd to next interview self esteem drained and ws offered the position!!
later i ws told my confident outfit had swung it in my favour!
