Iv not been employed since 2003 as had my own children and thus became a childminder in 2004.
I am fed up with CM and now feel desperate to go back to work.I am ok with my childmiding but feel I need some more independence and need to talk with adults and be myself again!!
I just dont have the confidence.I darednt even go in the the Next near me and ask for an app form.

Oh

Do you think you be able to be employed again after being your own boss? I know I couldn't, that maybe due to over confidence - I know I could do it better (what ever it is)

You have run your own business - how much more confidence do you need?

mum2oliver · 29/03/2008 21:29

I know but its just diff.I look after my children with confidence but to go out and talk to people and work with people I just feel I will make a fool out of myself.Im scared people wont like me.

you just need to grab the bull by the horns - if you want to go back out to work go for it - why would people not like you?
as a c/m people have trusted you with their most precious possesions so they must of loved you!

i'm too good to be employed by anyone else
just think like that
Next would be a walk in the park compaired to cm but just think of the 6am sale days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know how you feel about adult interaction and independence, but I found that cm-ing gave me more confidence! Before I found it hard to strike a conversation with people I didn't know. Now I trot off down the playgroup and school and chat to everyone!

Perhaps a job in the childcare sector would be a good idea then. At least then, you know you have confidence with children and that's a good start.

The trick is to get yourself a couple of interviews, but don't expect to get the job. Just go for the experience of an interview and enjoy it.

I'm going back out to work in 3 weeks and I have been minding for 12 years!

mum2oliver · 01/04/2008 17:57

OMG 12 yrs.Well done.I cant do it for much longer.
I also am confident with people at the schools, groups etc but I still have to go home and be with children alot of the day.Its all about the kids and Im not Hayley anymore.

I know exactly what you mean! I haven't been me, since I had dd and she is almost 13. I turned 40 at the begining of the year and I told myself that this year, is a year of big changes. Go and get yourself a couple of interviews or go tot he job centre. I believe they do interview techniques, to get your confidence up. I walked into the interview for this job, with absolutely no thought of getting the job, just practicing. I was so laid back about it and I got the job. It was the firt interview I've had since 1984! Go for it! What's the worst that can happen? You'll still have your mindees, you don't have to give up until you've got a job, so just get yourself a nice outfit and new shoes and that'll make you feel important and confident too!

Any ideas about what would be a good and intersting follow-up to CM?

I'm bored and fed-up of being taken for granted.

GI've got a degree in Health and Social care, lots of library experience and have been a 'shop-girl' and a youth worker!

Does your council have a vacancies website? That's the place to start looking!

mum2oliver · 02/04/2008 13:33

Oh sorry but its so nice to hear that people have been or are in the same boat.I feel a little alone and thought that every childminder loved and adored it all.I also feel like Im being taken for granted.
