Using all my annual leave so I work ‘part time’

Hi, has anyone got any experience? I work 5/6 full days a week and can’t really afford to go part time but was thinking of spreading my annual leave days out so I have one day off a week with the kids (1 and 3). Does this seem sensible? Thanks

Yes compressed hours is a good idea if they will agree to that

I found that when I dropped to part time when I had small kids my workload didn't change so I got paid less to do the same amount of work in less time! I was in fact working compressed hours as I was always staying late/ working in the evenings so I may as well have got paid for it

Then to add insult to injury when I wanted to go back full time when the kids were older they of course said that I would have to take on extra work as why would they pay me more to do the same job! I had to leave and get another job in order to be paid fairly

Please think about long term consequences and the difficulty you might be causing yourself down the line.

I always had a childminder instead of nursery when mine were under 3 because they seemed to find that less stressful for a long day. It was a home from home for them in a family environment doing a lot of normal stuff they'd be doing at home so I didn't feel so bad about leaving them there.
