If I could find someone to look after dc's after school one or two afternoons per week, would would I expect to pay?

I work for myself and at the moment the dc's attend an after school club, but they'd prefer to be at home. If I found someone trustworthy to collect them from school and look after them at home, what would be a reasonable rate? There are three of them, all primary school aged.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm watching with interest as Ive been thinking about this too. Anyone???

Heated · 16/03/2008 20:03

All the CMs I've spoken to charge £3.50 an hour, if that helps.

oldwomanwholivedinashoe · 16/03/2008 20:06

£3.50 per hour per child? or just per hour?

twinklytoes · 16/03/2008 20:10

per child.

KatyMac · 16/03/2008 20:11

Per child but it would be at the childminder home

At your home you are in the realms of Nanny/Mother's Help - you will be an employer and will be liable for Tax & NI & must pay minimum wage (currently £5.52 for over 21's)

So lets say three children between 2.30 for a 3pm pick up till 6pm = 3 1/2 hours would £35 be ok?

If at your home, thus the person was your nanny... then I'd say £10 per hour would be reasonable (not per child, but for all your children), given the part-time nature of the job.
Location could make some difference - salaries in some areas are not as high as others.

KatyMac · 16/03/2008 20:26

For childminding it would normally be from 3-6 so about £25-£45 depending upon area

For Mothers help maybe £18 (ish)plus tax & NI (& employers liability ins)

Here in Surrey it is £8 to £10 per hour plus petrol costs (40P per mile) - £8 is the average but some people do ask more particularly when they are only rewuired a couple of days a week - this is based on my experiences. Thanks
