How much do you pay a babysitter? We live in the North East, don't know if location matters? It's a friend's daughter and we aren't sure if we should pay a flat fee for the night or per hour. Should we ask her what she charges or just state an amount we are happy to pay? Thanks

Location I expect will matter quite a bit.
Here in the South East, parents will pay £10 per hour, for a qualified experienced nanny to babysit.

Ask her what she charges, then if it's more than you want to pay, negotiate.

With regard to flat rate... I'd say pay an hourly fee, which is rounded up to the next whole hour... and with say a minimum of 3 hours - so it is worth her while coming.
