Some of you may have seen me mention my friend wants me to cm her baby when she goes back to work, to do so I would have to give notice to someone (don't want to), or get a variation.

I can cm two under 5s, one of which under one.

Currently I have one (almost) full time 15 month old, and one part time 13 month old. Part timer comes tue aft, wed morn, thurs morn and fri aft.

My friend called me today she has an interview tomorrow for a full time job, baby is 4 months old.

So what do I need to do if friend gets this job? How do I go about applying for a variation, and how do I word it? Do I ask for the variation as the part time hours going above my numbers??

Other kids are ds aged 3 who goes to preschool each afternoon, and two pt time schoolies aged 8 and 10.

Sorry I have loads of questions!!

Ring Ofsted in the morning Kay and just explain exactly what you've just said. They'll probably ask you to put it in writing, but you can ask them exactly what you need to request. It only takes a couple of weeks to sort.

Thanks mml If friend doesn't take this job she will take another. Do you have to give a reason you want a variation?

Hi Kay,

When I applied for my variation, I rang Ofsted and they sent me the form I needed to fill in. It basically gives you a chart on which you write down which children you have each morning and afternoon so they can see how often you will be looking after 4 (including your own) and for when you need the variation.

You also need to write down how you would cope, physically and emotionally. The lovely Looneytune helped me with that bit

Mine was sorted within the week as I needed it quickly and did it online and then sent my certificate through after that.

Thanks sb. Guess I will be ringing them in the morning. I am going to write down each childs age and hours fo rwhen I ring up so I don't get all confused!

KayS - very unlikely they will do anything over the phone. I even sent a shorter letter for my latest variation and scanned and emailed and yet they STILL wrote to me asking for me to write the full lot (gave me things they wanted) so wish I'd just done that from the start like I normally do!!

Anyway, I have a template I use and adapt according to what I'm after - this time I'm asking for 2 under 1's once my baby arrives, fingers crossed!!

If you want to email me for advice.....info at helenslittleangels dot co dot uk

No probs, are you on facebook? Just thought I could send you my template via that as tomorrow is going to be a mental day. If don't manage to do during the day, will send you once finished work

KaySamuels · 07/03/2008 07:17

Not on facebook LT, don't worry, send it over later, I don't mind.

Why not do a timetable - so you can see visually how many children you will have for how long

I use this as my children's times are quite complicated

looneytune · 07/03/2008 08:46

kay, will send later along with the timetable ofsted like to use

KaySamuels · 07/03/2008 20:17

Thanks Katymac and LT, not been on PC since this morning.

Well I have just my letter from the template LT sent me (thanks chuck). Am just doing the table, do I put DS on it for them to see with his age, and also one of my 1year olds is contracted for about 30 hours a week but is always here full time so shall I put him on the table as full time??

My brain is addled!!
