Hiya. I have been registered just over a year now but when I first started I was really downhearted as it took a little while to get any queries and work.
I am sure it will start coming in soon so hold tight.
There is a thread on here with advertising tips so will try and find it for you.
and good luck

here there may be a newer one, but this is a good start

Hello Daisydaydreamer. I know how you feel, i have registered for 2 months now and i have had no calls etc, i have also advertised everywhere and the few people who email me either dont turn up when you arrange a meeting or never return emails. I have heard it takes a while but i never thought this long. Sorry to sound so negative but i am very disheartened about the whole situation

Daisydaydreamer · 18/02/2008 19:36

Thanks southerbelle77 I had found that thread earlier in week and posted on some of the websites Was really useful information, I was told at the pre-reg meeting that theres a shortage of childminders. also there are a few childminders in my local area who have lots of experience and have low rates, worries me that people will prefer a more qualified childminder I guess i'm just impatient

I was also told that there was a shortage of childminders in my area, its doesnt look that way to me.

southernbelle77 · 18/02/2008 19:49

I think everyone is told there is a shortage of childminders!

I know this is no consolation right now, but once you get a child or two things do seem to pick up and word of mouth can send your business flying.

Are you a member of a local childminding network? This is also a good way of getting work if you have your vacancies down with the vacancy coordinator. And going to drop in's as well (even before you have any mindees) so that other childminders get to know you and then if there is work going they will know to send it in your direction.

I dont know if there is a local childminding network.I did phone up the local parent direct and ask about going on the CIS website but she said my details had not come through from ofsted yet. I phoned my development officer and she said she come see me when my details have been processed that was two weeks ago.

Have you called CIS today? According to the info on the Opportunity Links website, a data transfer happened today (18-Feb-08) - with luck this is the data transfer that your CIS is waiting for. Once your local CIS has the data on their computer screen, they can then check and update that data. Alas your CIS is probably tied to waiting until their systems shows you being registered... so it's just a waiting game.

Thanks nannynick i will phone them tomorrow and see if i am on there database, I was under the impression that all new childminders automatically go on the mailing lists what they send out to people looking for childcare anyway, but most people are online these days and would look at there local CIS website so its a must to get on the website. Hope you get some enquires soon twickschildminder
