Hi I am new to mumsnet so hello! Hope you can help me out here. I am looking for a childminder in Leeds for my 3 year old DD. She is very clingy with me and i have tried nursery but took her out as she was very unsettled. She is used to a quieter, homely environment and nursery was too noisy plus the fact she cried for me constantly. I am going back to uni in Sept 08 as a student midwife so i need someone who can be a little flexible as i will have uni and then placements all at different hours. She is not due to start school til Sept 09. I would like her to go to a childminder sooner rather than later just to get her used to it before September. She is a lovely, well behaved little girl who just needs to get used to being away form me and vice versa!! I am a big softy and haven't done her any favours really by taking her out of nursery but i did what i felt right for her at the time. I will be much happier with a childminder! Thanks in advance for any replies, Lisa.

Have you tried contacting you council, to speak to your Early Years or Surestart team? Not sure what its called in Leeds, but I'm sure they'll tell you. They should be able to give you a list of minders in your area and you can go from there.

Lisax3girls · 11/02/2008 22:32

Hi Maureen, thanks for your reply. I have phoned a few but they are all fully booked up. I think I will ring surestart and see if they can help, thankyou! Lisa

Is a babysitter with previous experience with children any good or was you more on the lines of an actual childminding service?
Because a babysitter would be able to look after your child in the comfort of your own home, is that what you are looking for?

Hi lisa
I am a newly registered childminder based in cleckheaton west yorkshire. I don't know if that is too far for you to travel. I have two full time vacancies at the moment. I am very flexible with my working hours and would love to help you and your daughter out (sounds just like mine bless them) if you need any more info ring me 01274 851441

Hi Mandy, Thank you so much for your reply. You sound perfect but you are just too far for me which is such a shame. Thank you again, Lisa

I have a friend who is a childminder in Headingley: she has a dog, but it is a well behaved labrador (I am saying this as some people wouldn't want their dc with cm who has a dog). She does home cooked meals and ensures good manners etc. I could find out if she has any places available.

Alternatively, I use a nursery up in Far Headingley - I recommended to a friend who is a trainee hv, and she went round, immediately booked her daughter in and also loves it. The nn's are really lovely and will sit and cuddle one child for as much time as is necessary - sometimes one gets carried in and out when nn's are greeting or saying goodbye to dc's. Ds runs in happy every morning, and has even been known to throw a strop coming out as he doesn't want to leave

Lisax3girls · 21/02/2008 23:59

Hi mistlethrush, Thanks for your reply! Headingley is perfect so if you would'nt mind asking her that would be brilliant, thankyou!! We have a dog so DD3 is used to them so thats not a problem. Thanks again Lisa

Hi Mistlethrush, Have you managed to ask your friend yet? Don't worry if you haven't had the time! Thanks Lisa.

Hi Lisax3girls,
I have been a registered childminder for 21 years this year, I live in Greengates and am just off Harrogate Road. I have a baby starting in August whose Mum works in Leeds and she says it is going to be very convenient. At the moment I look after a little boy age 2 until 2pm who has been with me since a few weeks old, I look after his sister before school and in the holidays. I also look after twin boys two afternoons who will be starting school in September and have another 4 school age children on various days - I also run thriving Rainbow and Brownie groups.
I have a first aid certificate, am ofsted registeredand have been on a variety of other courses.
I am flexible and have lots of photos and info about where we go and things we do. I have excellent recommendations from past and present parents (some who have become good friends) If you want to contact me please do so on here and then I will send you my email address.
Hoping to hear from you soon.

Lisax3girls · 15/03/2008 11:15

Thankyou to everyone who has replied to me and thanks for your offers. Unfortunately, you are all just abit too far or in the opposite direction to be convenient for me. I really need someone in the west Leeds area as i have 2 daughters that need dropping off at school in Leeds 16 and then i need to be going to the University in Leeds. Thanks again though, you all sound lovely and would be ideal but i have to be realistic with travel. Lisa

Hi, lisax3girls, Im not sure if you have found anyone as you havent posted on here since 29th june. However I am currently studying at leeds university and I am looking for a nanny position. I only attend university for 6 hours a week monday -thursdays and do not go home over the weekends. If you havent found childcare yet or are in need of a babysitter or would consider me as a nanny and I look after your daughter in the comfort of your own home where hopefully she wont get so upset I would happily work for you. If your are interested and would like to know my previous experience please message me, Regards Jennythread
