Enquiry via e-mail, respond to arrange a meeting, and don't hear anything back. Is that typical?

Over the last month, I've had two enquiries (via e-mail) from parents, but when I reply to arrange a suitable date for a meeting, I don't get any response. Anyone else find this happens?

oh yeah all the time nick, had one last week.
very annoying and frustrating especially if you have a couple of enquiries for one vacancy.
its not hard to email saying "no thank you we have gone with another option" or similar is it??!!
winds me up!!!

oooh this winds me up.. I have had about 4 emails, i reponded to all of them and havent heard anything. Then beginning of last week get a phone call from a lady arrange a meeting for yesterday and she didnt even pitch up.. not even a phone call or anything.. it really peeves me off.
At least im not the only one

Most annoying. Trouble is, many times, you need the work, so if they do eventually reply and want to meet up, you have to see them, when really what you want to say is, 'well too bad, if you'd have returned my e-mail/call, I could have accommodated you, but I've given the place to someone else!'

It's just rude not to reply to an e-mail. Sure circumstances change, people change their minds, things happen. So much easier if they reply saying they changed their mind... than to keep chasing it up.
When I worked in Sales, we would chase leads for 7 times, then put them in the dead pile (though still mail them on occasion). I'll chase a couple of times for a childcare enquiry... but after that... the parents can go elsewhere.
