Morning all!

Rubbish day, weather wise. Just sharing crumpets with mindee, then off to get soaked on the way to school. I did have something to tell you, but it can't have been that exciting, because I've forgotten already!

Basic Pancake Recipe (Makes about 12 small pancakes )

Ingredients:

100g white plain flour
1 egg
150ml milk
150ml water
1 teaspoon olive oil (plus more for greasing the pan)

Method:

Sift the flour into a basin, make a well in the centre and break in the egg.
Add a little milk and stir gently.

Add the rest of the milk slowly and stir until smooth.

Stir in the water and oil and beat for one minute.

(If you have an electric whisk bung all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until you have a smooth batter)

Heat a drop of oil in an omelette pan. When the pan is really hot, pour in about 3 tablespoons of batter.

Cook for just under a minute - using a spatula to keep an eye on how it's cooking.

Now the fun bit ... FLIP IT - or if you find you're dropping too many, turn it over with the spatula.

Cook the other side for 15 seconds.

ROSEgarden · 05/02/2008 13:59

this is how i make my pancakes

step 1:go to morrisons
step 2: find the bakery aisle
step 3: buy two boxes of ready mix packcake ingredients..BOGOF..woohoo
step 4: pay for said items
step 5: put mixture into bowl
step 5: mix with water
step 6: plop in frying pan
step 7: waste 1/2 of them trying to show off my rubbish flipping technique
step 6: me and dd plus 2 mindees all eat the one pancake we managed to salvage, coevr it with banana, icecream, toffe and choc sauce...yummmmmmmmmmmmm

Hall almost done now 'sept bloody bits at top of stairs/landing that no human could ever reach...only got steps no ladders so will have to source some from someone?.....stink of turps and dd/mindees will definatly come in in an hour and put their little finger prints all over the door frames cos i forgot to do them first..ah well..off to tidy my mess up.xxx

alison222 · 05/02/2008 14:07

Hello, I need to amend my sickness policy. Mindee @ school - mum took him this morning as he had been sick & feverish in night.
Caught me on the hop so have agreed as he is @ school to have him later. Wish I hadn't now - what if he infects my kids- mind you they are at the same school too.
Aggh.
What would you do?

southernbelle77 · 05/02/2008 14:10

Afternoon all! Been out and about all morning at drop in and preschool. Home now and going to make pancakes in a bit. DD asleep on my lap and don't think she's too well.
Sorry for all the poorly peeps in today, hope you feel better soon.
Glad you found out and can prepare ds now Looney.
Hope you get the holiday dtails soon Mo.
No news from Ofsted yet or from the parents for that matter so who knows whats happening. Feeling pessimistic now

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 14:16

Oh ho ho! My lovely postman wouldn't dream of giving my post to anyone else. He also knows about my holiday and everyday, when I see him, he says, sorry, not today, Mo!

My pancake plan is even better.

1 Call DH and tell him I want pancakes, like now!
2 Eat them!!!

Job done.

Ali, your policy should already say that children need to be excluded for 24 hours after sickness like that. Trouble is, if the school has excepted him, what can you do. Since it was in the night, no doubt the parent didn't actually part this info with the school, but feels its necessary to tell you!

can i make pancakes with fry light instead of oil??..quick have to go NOW....

hennipenni · 05/02/2008 14:36

Henni swishes in pinning on her "GOOD" badge (is very happy as this partic inspector gives out more satisfactories than goods), We had scotch pancakes this morning with banana, satsumas an lemon juice. (Yummy!)

Alison, I thought it was 48 hours? That's what's in my policies and I wasn't put "right" about it by ofsted this morning.

BradfordMum · 05/02/2008 15:31

well, I've been to a den Building session this afternoon, and to add insult to injury, the car door blew closed, scraping my temple as it did it
I must be jinxed today I think.
The last mindie has gone home, but I'm off to the dentist at 5pm. I feel I ought to just take to my bed and see the day out!

crace · 05/02/2008 15:45

Right batter mix just made for tonight, and then need to get ham ready for dinner as well.

I swear some days I just don't feel up to this sahm/c/m malarky. Moan alert - I do an involved breakfast (nothing fancy, yoghurty oaty fruit thing or eggy soldiers), then lunch for DH and DS, as well as all day food service for mindees (7am to 6pm)and then a dinner for all as well. Seriously, I feel like going on strike. DH can't take over dinner, he gets home past 7pm as it is and is out early doors so it HAS to be. Normally I don't mind, but today I do Right moan is over, I just look forward to being done for today and going to bed

shoshe · 05/02/2008 15:48

Me MamaG why!!!!!!!!!

Well I made 30 small pancakes, 6 children demolished them in 10 minutes!

southernbelle77 · 05/02/2008 16:08

Ofsted called! Variation granted!
Huge thanks to everyone for your advice, and especially to Looney for basically putting me on the right track with what to write each.

Now I just need the parents to get back to me!! Please keep all fingers and toes crossed that they do (they have said they want me already just waiting for a date) as I really need the work!

Pancakes made along with lots of mess but kept them entertained for a while and they loved eating them (and cutting them into shapes on dd's request )

southernbelle77 · 05/02/2008 16:10

Hope you're ok BM. Hitting your temples on the corner of the door is not good. I did it with the boot before and thought I was going to pass out!

Mum2Luke · 05/02/2008 17:19

Anyone made batter for pancakes today? I've just finished making last lot for my gang and am covered in flour lol!

Congrats on baby boy LT!! I had my 3rd late so the older two werent fussed what they had.

Good on yer Frany, flippin parents, she should know to keep baby at home if sick. She sounds a bit selfish and leaving sick baby with you while she works and then cheeky being cross with you for ringing.

Oh well, gotta go and help ds change for footy training.

Byeeee

franyfroo · 05/02/2008 18:35

well its been a mad day. still got pancakes for my lot and a diner to do.

think i will open a bottle of something!!

ngt all

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 18:40

Finally, mindees gone home. Just got dd to take to Guides in a minute, then I might actually get some dinne for myself before back to get DD!

Glad I prevented you from leaving MN Frany. It is a great source of information and support if you post in the right places! I often say things in here, like, 'I'm going to ask you lot first, before I ask everyone else!' Saves a lot of embarrassment or hard feelings.

nannynick · 05/02/2008 18:52

Am I the only one who didn't make pancakes today? The children don't like them much, so I thought it better not to waste the ingredients and made a cake instead.

Congrats on getting a GOOD hennipenni.

Sorry to hear about your injuries BradfordMum, sounds like a bad day.

shoshe · 05/02/2008 18:56

Even I made pancakes Nick! and although I can cook (contrary to what some people think, DH doesnt do it all) I cannot bake.

I do of course with the children, a sorry sight it is usually tho

crace · 05/02/2008 18:58

Haven't done pancakes yet waiting for the husband to come home, sensible dinner first and then we will be doing pancakes for pud. He's a greedy thing, and slim which is annoying.

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 20:30

Was it SB who missed all the competitions? If so, pass it on that there's a family holiday for 4 up for grabs. All very child friendly by the look of things. (Yuck, kids on ya holiday? - no thanks! )

ROSEgarden · 05/02/2008 20:30

Am getting mildly peeved off AGAIN with a certain parent who NEVER gives me thier childs hours unless i shine a bright light in their eyes and make em!..i always ask for 2 weeks in advance so i can plan...this child will be coming 'one' day this week and ive still no idea which despite texting mum TWICE now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.do people really have such a lack of respect and consideration for their childminders!

MaureenMLove · 05/02/2008 20:35

Could you make a 'movement sheet' for her? A kind of calendar that you give her on a monthly basis and tell her you need to have it back by xx, so that you can plan your month. I know, you've asked time and time again, but maybe if she actually has a sheet of paper in her hand with your terms clearly printed in big, bold neon lights , shemight get it!
