Ok so do you use a daily diary for notes for your parents? I've been using A5 peice of paper printed with few words and filling in the gaps, like sleep, food, nappy chnages etc. Do you use these and if so how? Someone suggested Day books for similar writing down of things but my concern would be parents taking it home and then bringing it back? or should they leave it here? please help me with my niggly questions...........

I give them all hard backed books with a photo on the front & put in all the cuddly bits & food & poos, no negatives Lots of photos

If they don't bring it in they get basic eat, pooed, drank on a post it - so there is an incentive to bring it in

ooh sounds nice - have thoguht about doing nice handprints to go on the books, like the idea of a post it if not bought! lol

Hi EM

I use a school-type exercise book for each of my mindees, handwritten notes. I state what they had for each meal, nap times and duration, poo or not, then comment on activites undertaken, what the child particularly enjoyed, stick relevant photos in it too (permission for photographing obtained)

The diaries travel daily between me and parents.

I too do daily diary, if parent forgets to bring I only re-start once parent brings it back - only happened once!

I write in chatty style what we've been up to, what mindee played with / cute things said /did, food offered & eaten etc and any changes/development I've noticed.

Parent also writes in (after I went on BirthToThree course and heard it was good idea!) meaning parent can tell me things eg 'mindee biting her nails and we're trying xxx to discourage her' or 'we noticed mindee doing xxx, this is how we deal with it' etc so that parent is not having to tell me all this on doorstep with mindee listening!

I virtually write a story about what the mindee has been uptp etc, if they don't bring them back then I don't , simple as that. I do encourage parents top write in them too but noboy ever has.

I do daily diaries but find they get lost at home and I won't replace them every week. I write lots in them of our day, photos, paintings, notes to parents in a pocket, a pocket for notes for me. I think they are lovely but don't think parent's realise how much time is spent on them. Also I am due an inspection soon and one mindee's book will either be lost or have gaos of months in it, which reflects poorly on me.

Am liking the post it idea katymac!

I have been toying with the idea of letting parents read them while I do coats and shoes and keeping them at mine, then when they are full parents are given them to keep. Would solve my probs but don't know if it's a bit harsh??

I do the same, a notebook in their bag and write in them daily. I do have a parent that forgets it often but then I just verbally tell them (not a baby) and start again when it comes back. Though, one time my mindee was ill and parent thought it might be a reaction to something she ate. I asked if they had looked at her book as everything was in there and she said she didn't bother. lol, glad I bother with such things. Oh well, I do it for me as well as them so I don't mind much.

I use a diary for each child to record everything in, but don't let the parents take it home! I go through it with them at home time when I'm putting the mindee's coat/shoes on.

Can I but in, I am not a CM, but a huge fan of them.

My CM has a book for DS2 which we bring home in our bag and then return next time.

I absolutley love it. When I have been away from him it is lovely to know what he's been up to and that he's been happy. Also it is nice for DH to read through as he never drops off or picks up.

I would never forget to return it as I would miss having it filled in!!!!!
