I think we've met, haven't we?

A childminder's probably going to be the best option in your situation, as nurseries generally run 8 to 6. I originally thought more of nurseries but decided to go with the childminder option because there aren't that many council nursery places for under 2s let alone under 1s and the fees are half my take home pay, I can't afford private nursery fees (many are about the whole of my take home pay) and the other nurseries near me are I think church linked and that doesn't seem quite appropriate somehow.

There's a link to the Childcare Information Service through the Haringey Council website who can send you a print out of childminders currently registered within your area - I got details of the 3 neighbouring postcode areas as well, and there are lots in Wood Green. Most of the childminders give phone contact details and I planned to start ringing them up but before I got round to it, I emailed those who seemed worth asking for further information from and who had email - had about 6 responses and went to meet 2 who both live round the corner from me. I was impressed by both.

Rates vary a lot, those I found out about varied from £30 to £55 a day. The Council's Children's Centre nurseries are £35 a day but several of them have very few under 2 places.

Good luck.
