hi i am going to write a letter of complaint to social services as i am a childminder and they gave my address to mindees father without asking me.the mindees go to a contact centre to meet him normally, but social worker thought dad needs more responsibility.i am not happy that this parent knows where i live and could turn up at any time.social worker said if he turns up ring police.any ideas im sure they are not allowed to give my address without my permission.

I think you should complain to the social worker's boss in writing, certainly - is it because the father is accused of violence that he normally meets his children at a contact centre? In which case the social worker has exposed you to risk of violence without consulting you, which sounds like serious professional misconduct (ie a sacking offence).

I doubt the social services team manager will do much about it, I'm afraid. Address details of carers, foster carers getting given to parents is quite common I believe. I was even reading a book recently about the life of a foster carer, and in that she mentioned the father of a child she cared for being given her address . Social workers are under a lot of pressure (my sister is one) and don't always think things through... ideally they should have asked you, but the father does have some rights - which may include knowing where his children are.
I wouldn't worry too much about it... as the social worker says, if dad turns up at your door and refuses to go away, call the police.

There is the fact that by giving out your address (which by the way is to say the least, bad practise) this person has broken strict data protection regulations which they must adhere to by law!! Therefore regardless of whether or not this man appears at your door, they have broken the law, if I were you I would seek legal advise!! This happened to me, Im a childminder also, and the dad did appear, as a result of protecting HIS kids from HIM I got to spend 3 weeks in hospital and couldnt work for nearly 6 months!! AND ALL THANKS TO THE SOCIAL SERVICES THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT CHILDREN NOT CAUSE THEM SUFFERING!!!
